How to Play NameThatMatch
NameThatMatch is a daily football guessing game. Each day, a classic match is hidden behind a series of clues. Your job is to figure out which match it is using as few clues as possible.
The rules
- Read the clue - you start with one clue about a classic football match. It could be the competition, the scoreline, or a hint about the era.
- Guess or reveal - think you know the match? Type your guess. Not sure yet? Reveal the next clue for more information.
- Fewer clues = higher score - guessing after clue 1 earns 1,000 points. Each additional clue lowers the base score.
- Wrong guesses cost points - each incorrect guess deducts 50 points, so guess wisely.

Hard mode
Want a bigger challenge? Hard mode gives you only 4 clues, removes autocomplete, and multiplies your score by 1.5x. Maximum possible score: 2,000 points.
Streaks
Play every day to build your streak. Your streak count appears in your share text - the longer your streak, the more bragging rights. Miss a day and it resets to zero.
Sharing
After each game, share your result with friends. The share text shows how many clues you needed using a spoiler-free emoji grid - no match names, no teams, no spoilers. Challenge your mates to beat your score on the same puzzle.
